Update on not using a night cream

I having been following the Dr. Hauschka method of not using a night cream. I have to say I am a bit confused about this. One major thing I have noticed is that I wake up with less lines in my face. I have one line I notice under my left eye that is starting to appear and I notice it the most when I wake up in the morning. I try not to sleep on my stomach but always end up that way. Well not using a night cream seems to have lessened those lines I get from smushing my face into my pillow. Interesting! Also I have noticed little tiny black heads on my face seem to be wanting out! Sometimes we think a little red bump on the skin is a pimple. Well sometimes its not and it is really a congested pore. Which means you need to give more force to get this "blackhead" out of the skin. I have noticed more of these popping up on my face. Which I happen to think is a good thing. You want that stuff to come out, rather than getting lodged in the skin and staying there. So I think I will start to get a mud mask on my face and see if they helps draw the gunk out.
The one down side if you look very closely to my skin you can see it is dehydrated. Dehydrated skin looks like it has more tiny little wrinkles it in, as if it is being pulled very taught. Now dehydrated skin means its lacking water and this can cause aging.
So if I really wanted to stick with this method I think I could give myself moisture boosts a couple times a week with a hydrating mask. But I think my skin is to dry for that. I think what is best for me is to start using a night cream again. Maybe one day a week I will not use a night cream just in case Dr. Hauschka is correct in the skin needing to repair itself without the use of creams/lotions.

Recycle!

Everyone knows recycling is important. I just wanted to give some reminders. MAC makeup is not a natural makeup company, but they do recycle their containers. Remember to collect your containers, with every 6 containers returned you receive a FREE lip gloss or eye shadow. This is a great way to motivate people to recycle containers we forget are harmful to the environment.
Also I work at ESPN and just want to applaud them for switching all of their to-go containers in the cafeteria to biodegradable/compostable. Every water cooler cup, fork, spoon, and knife is compostable. They have dispersed "compostable only" receptacles all over the campus. Hopefully their example will help other companies do the same!
If you don't have recycling where you live make it happen! I moved into my condo 3years ago and there is no recycling! I am so fed up with calling myself "green" and yet sometimes throwing an aluminum can in the trash! I do what I can to collect bottles and cans and take them to the grocery store. I also bring newspapers to ESPN to recycle them there. So I wrote an official letter citing the laws in Connecticut for recycling and sent it in to my condo association. After MONTHS with no word, I finally got an answer! They approved it!! So by October 1st the condominiums will have recycling! I am so excited and feel like I have done a good deed for the environment. Hopefully everyone else will do their part and take recycling seriously. So please if you don't have recycling either, sit down and write that letter!

Natural Mascara

OK I know I talk about Dr. Hauschka a lot, but I tried their mascara and really like it! It works just as well as any drugstore mascara. I ordered the Intermezzo Black Mascara. It smells great and accentuates my lashes making them look fuller, and longer with no clumps. It also lasts all day with no smudging or running. I like how easy it is to remove too! If you are looking for natural mascara this is a great start!

Night Creams?

When I was in school studying to be an Aesthetician, we discussed night creams and how they are essential to the skin, however many people have different beliefs about this. Some people believe we should let our skin "breathe." This means at night cleanse, tone, and cancel the moisturizer. Well, in school I was told this is total BS! Your skin needs a layer of protection to prevent moisture evaporating to the environment. Loss of water in the skin leads to lines and wrinkles. Therefore, a moisturizer is your barrier that keeps that water inside the skin preventing aging. Most companies make night creams that are usually heavier and help the skin repair itself throughout the night while you sleep.

Well I never second guessed this theory until now. I have recently gotten into using Dr. Hauschka's products. I really like them and love how they use all natural ingredients, and essential oils in their products. This company does not believe in night creams. They believe the skin is very "smart" and can repair itself on its own. They think heavy night creams and creams with artificial ingredients prevent the skin from breathing, and interfere with the skin's natural functions.
Dr. Hauschka developed a product called Rhythmic Night Conditioner. It's consistency is like a toner. It is a clear liquid with little to no scent. This product was developed to help encourage skin cell renewal, calm oil production and blemishes, and support elasticity. Although you only use this product for a 28 day cycle a few times a year, the package instructs you to do a cycle for each decade you have been alive. In other words, if you are 30, you would use Rhythmic Night conditioner 3 times a year.
Intrigued by this, I am giving it a try. I have dry skin and live in Connecticut. As you know its September and the weather hasn't changed yet. I am very curious to see how my skin will react. I have always used night creams and love to put on a luxurious cream on my face. So far I am 5 days in my cycle. My skin feels good and I think applying the toner and the conditioner helps me feel like I am still putting some moisture into my skin. One night I felt some tightness but it went away after an hour or so. I am really going to need to pay close attention to my frown lines. If they get any worse I am going right back to my night creams!

Find a Naturopath

I started off going green by switching out all of my body products to all natural. Recently I realized the inside of my body isn't quite as healthy. I was eating a lot of sugar and processed foods. I have always had digestive problems, and by that I mean being irregular and having cramping. With cancer plaguing our nation I don't want to sit around hope it doesn't happen to me, so I figured I should just do something about it.
In the past I went to an internist who prescribed me to take fiber capsules. This didn't do anything for me, in fact for some reason it seemed to make everything worse. On top of it all I was still irregular but now having gas. I quickly quit taking those capsules!
Remembering this I decided to seek out a Naturopath and it has changed my life. I was feeling lethargic and irregular all the time. My naturopath drew blood to test me for food allergies and gave me a list of guidelines to change my diet. I have now cut out high sugar foods and beverages, and fried foods. I am now eating high protein and fiber foods. I have been regular ever since! I feel cleaner on the inside, I feel less bloated, have more energy, and have lost weight. Also exercise and drinking lots of water is helping too. If you want to change your eating habits go find a naturopath.

Lavera

This is a great company! They have amazing customer service. When I called this company I spoke with a very friendly girl. She took my info and sent me free makeup and skincare samples. I received them within two weeks. I recently got a follow up email from her giving me more info of products on sale, and even a discount with my first purchase!
As for their products I have tried the Basis Sensitive Enriched moisturizer and loved it! The perfect adjective for it is silky! I have never found a silky moisturizer, I have only found ones that were creamy, light, a bit watery, or too thick! This is the first one that I have found that is perfectly silky. Also the scent is a light sweet/floral smell which I found soothing.
On a downside I tried their Make Up Fluid foundation and wasn't happy with it. It was much to thick and surprisingly didn't have the best coverage for its thickness. The color was a bit too red/orange as well.
While I continue to test out my samples you should go ahead and order some for yourself and see what you think-

Natural Deodorant

OK so I am having problems finding a natural deodorant that WORKS! I have only found some that temporarily work.
These are the deodorants I have tried:
Jason- Aloe Vera scent
Herbal Magic- Jasmine scent
Tom's of Maine- Lavender
Pit Putty

Now most reviews I have read swear by Pit Putty. I agree it is a good product. I first starting applying it by loading that stuff on! Then a few hours later at work I smelled terrible! When my Jason deodorant gives out it doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as when the Pit Putty gave out. Although the Pit Putty lasts longer than the Jason. So! My newest trick for using Pit Putty is to not put a lot on, and if I feel myself starting to perspire then I dab with a tissue. Dabbing and re-applying has really lengthened the effectiveness of my natural deodorants. Though I am still searching, I hope to find something better. Its really not fun to dab my pits with a tissue a couple times an hour at work.

Informative interview

Hey All!
I haven't talked about skincare or body products yet, but oh I will! I found this video online and thought it was very informative. I have heard of Pangea Organics and I have been very interested in them. All of the packaging is used of recycled materials. The products themselves are organic! This is a video from the creator himself of Pangea Organics. Enjoy!
